The wastewater treatment plant and the composting plant for separately collected green and biodegradable waste of the Yambol municipality were inspected by representatives of the European Commission who are visiting Bulgaria. The two projects were implemented with the financial support of the Operational Program “Environment 2014-2020”.
The integrated project for the water cycle of Yambol includes the construction of a treatment plant and the expansion and reconstruction of the water supply network in the city. The value of the project is BGN 44.4 million. The investment for the construction of the composting plant for separately collected green and biodegradable waste amounts to BGN 3.7 million.
Agnes Monfre, head of the department “Bulgaria, Croatia and Slovenia” in the General Directorate “Regional and Settlement Policy” of the EC, defined the projects as impressive and a source of pride. “The conversion of green waste into fertilizer and the transformation of wastewater into electricity to power plants in the treatment plant are a true circular economy in action,” emphasized Ms. Monfre.
Within the framework of the visit, the representatives of the European Commission also participated in the Annual Information Event of the Operational Program “Environment 2014-2020”, which was held at the Water Tower in Sofia.
