The modernization of the Sofia wastewater treatment plant “Kubratovo” has begun

At the site of the Sofia City Wastewater Treatment Plant (SWTP) “Kubratovo” the first sod was laid, which started the reconstruction, modernization and completion of the facility.

The contractor is DZZD “SPSOV-Kubratovo” with leading partner “GBS-Plovdiv” AD and with the participation of “Glavbolgarstroy” AD. The event was attended by the Deputy Mayors of the Metropolitan Municipality (SO) in the direction of “Public Construction”, Eng. Angel Jorgov and in “Finance and Health Care”, Doncho Barbalov, Petar Kostov, director of the “Construction” Directorate in the SO, Vasil Trenev, ex. Director of Sofia Water AD, Eng. Dimitar Karamitrev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of GBS-Plovdiv AD, and Eng. Dimitar Telliyev, Executive Director of GBS-Plovdiv AD, as well as Zhivko Tsenov, Chief Designer of the site from the WEP company.

The planned construction and assembly works are implemented within the framework of the project “Construction of plumbing infrastructure in the Capital Municipality” under the Operational Program “Environment 2014-2020”. It has a total value of BGN 140,495,700, of which BGN 96,478,397 is a grant from the EU, and BGN 44,017,303 is the CO’s own contribution. The reconstruction of the “Kubratovo” WWTP amounted to BGN 56,969,732.

The aim of the project is to improve the efficiency of wastewater treatment by lowering the final ammonia content in treated water, reducing eutrophication, and by implementing a new sludge treatment facility to reduce its quantity. The set project indicators are to achieve removal of ammonia up to 80-90% and of total nitrogen up to 75-85%.
