“The city of Loznitsa already has a functioning wastewater treatment plant. We have witnessed realized projects, achieved goals and proven capabilities of one of the operational programs that symbolizes the solidarity of the European Union. Through the Operational Program “Environment 2007-2013″ we support objects that improve the environment”, emphasized the Minister of Environment and Water, Mrs. Iskra Mihailova, during the opening of the reconstructed wastewater treatment plant /WWTP/ of the Greek Loznitsa. The value of the treatment plant is BGN 2.1 million. It is part of the water project of Loznitsa, which has a total value of BGN 17 million and is financed by the Operational Program “Environment 2007-2013”.
Minister Mihailova congratulated the team of both the municipality and the Managing Authority of the Operational Program “Environment 2007-2013” for the good work, efforts and will for the successful implementation of the project. “With this project, 100% of the population will be included in the sewage network. There is already a complete and modern waste water treatment here. Once again, we prove that with such projects we create new jobs. Loznitsa is one of the examples of the European integration of Bulgaria”, noted Minister Mihailova and in conclusion added “that we manage to cope with the programs because we work”.
The mayor of the city, Mr. Ayhan Hashimov, also addressed the guests and participants in today’s event with a greeting. “Today is a long-awaited day for our municipality. The project has been implemented for four years and we are satisfied that we have already finished the work, “said the mayor. He pointed out that access to sewage and wastewater treatment are one of the main elements in environmental protection and thanked everyone who contributed to the successful implementation of the site.
The rehabilitation of the treatment plant aims to optimize its operation by reducing infiltration into the sewage system. Direct discharge of untreated sewage into water bodies in the area will be prevented and soil and groundwater pollution will be reduced. 4,154 equiv. residents will benefit from the implementation of the entire project.
The opening was attended by the Ministers of Agriculture and Food, Prof. Dimitar Grekov, and of Labor and Social Policy, Mr. Hasan Ademov, who later opened the renovated city park of the city, financed under the Rural Development Program.
